La Meridiana Club

The scheme won First Prize at the National Ideas Competition for the renovation and extension of the club dressing room area with insertion of a wellness SPA centre.

The objective of the project was to provide adequate space for the new functional needs of the club by creating a high quality contemporary extension which fits harmoniously into the existing complex.

The building currently housing the changing rooms will be extended south towards the swimming pool area, with a new single storey and 4.5 m wide, cross laminated timber structure. The new extension will thus reshape the South facade of the existing building that looks out over the swimming pools and the park of the historic villa which form part of the complex.

The new extension will allow for reorganization of the indoor space, which will have the wellness area-SPA at its core, located between the ladies’ and men’s changing rooms. The SPA will look out, through large floor to ceiling glazing, onto the adjacent lawns, pools and the park.

The entire flat roof of the extension will be arranged as a terrace “with a view” facing the pools and bar area, and be directly connected with them by means of two external staircases. The panoramic roof terrace will resemble a ship’s deck with wooden boards for the flooring, and will house a sunbathing deck, outdoor Jacuzzi, and a relaxation area shaded by a curvilinear canopy.

Since the design competition victory, the next design stages have been completed. The project is currently awaiting construction.
